Name: Keith James Martin
Born: 24th August 1964 at 11.47 (just before lunch, so that's why I've been hungry ever since!)
Home:
I live in Weybourne on the beautiful North Norfolk coast with my parents Bertie and Pearl, who look after me. I suffer from Muscular Atrophy, a rarer form of Muscular Dystrophy with a curved spine and we're confined to a wheelchair. My disease is progressive and movement has degenerated greatly over the past few years, but I'm not going to let it get me down! My father is a retired Farm worker and my mother is a retired Domestic who worked at Gresham's School. My parents moved here in 1963 from Stiffkey when a cottage became available, although Dad and my Uncle Peter had been working here since 1962 commuting! My Uncle then got a job closer to home at Cockthorpe, my Dad worked for the same farm until his retirement in 1997.
Schools:
I went to Kelling County Primary in 1968 and then went on to Sheringham Secondary in 1975, left in 1980.
Interests:
Radio:
I've been operational on the radio since 1981, starting on CB where I worked the world. I passed my City & Guilds Radio Amateur Examination in late 1984 becoming G1MIE, passed the morse in 1986 to gain current call. I was (although disputed!) a founder member of the North Norfolk Amateur Radio Group in 1990, became Group Secretary and Webmaster in 2000. I resigned as Secretary etc. and my membership on the 29th October 2002 due to several factors not to be aired on here!!The group operates the permanent special call of GB2MC at The Muckleburgh Collection, the UK's largest privately owned military museum. I still have close ties with the museum, still doing their website, but no association with the radio side of the collection!
I joined the Chilton DX Club (CDXC) in November 2002 to support my main interest of DXing!!
I have been involved with, or operated as part of the SES callsigns, GB4SPS "Sheringham Park Steam Sawmill", GB1ØØNT "100 years of National Trust" and GB2ØØCLB "200th Anniversary of Cromer Lifeboat.
Member of the GB2BML "Blakeney Mariner's Light" team that first activated ARLHS # ENG-292 on the International Lighthouse Weekend, August 2003.
We have since formed ourselves into The Bittern DX Group, in February 2004 and I'm Group Secretary.
If you want any information about us, check out the website or feel free to email me??
Computers:
Been interested in computers since the mid 80's, starting with the Sinclair ZX81 then the ZX Spectrum. Went through various other machines, got my first real PC in 1996! Went on the Internet in 1998 and now involved with Web design (Burnt Offerings Design), but strictly amateur! I have done courses on both Dreamweaver MX and Fireworks MX, I'm currently learning Flash MX and Adobe Photoshop 7.Watching most Sports:
Especially enjoy football and I'm an avid fan of "The Tractor Boys" Ipswich Town since 1973, my favourite players are Darren Bent and Pablo Counago.
Cricket is a passion, I keenly follow England and of course Norfolk in the Minor Counties, favourite players are Graham Thorpe, Michael Vaughan, Marcus Trescothick and of course Andrew Flintoff. For pure escapism I watch the WWE wrestling, I know it isn't real but I really enjoy it!! I do have my favourite wrestlers these are Bill Goldberg (no longer WWE!) and Triple H "The Game"!!
Rob Van Dam, Randy Orton, "The Undertaker" and "Kane", but call me a pervert if you wish I do like "Trish Stratus" aswell, not entirely for her wrestling ability though!
Both Mum and Dad play indoor bowls, so I watch them a lot...
Watching TV:
Having quite a bit of time on my hands, I watch too much television. My perennial favourites are "Allo Allo", Only Fools and Horses, Soccer AM, Star Trek (in all it's various guises), The Simpsons and Farscape.Listening to music:
Like most kinds of music from Classical to Heavy Rock, in the late 70's I was a member of the Blondie fan club.Favourites are Queen, Bon Jovi, Chris Rea, Linkin Park, Extreme, Lisa Stansfield, Mariah Carey and Robbie Williams, I did say that I had wide ranging tastes!
Eating Out:
As I hinted at earlier, I love eating (not good when unable to burn off all those extra pounds!)!! Favourite food is anything with Chicken, when out I love Italian food.My favourite ports of call are "The Feathers" at Holt, "Lakeside Country Club" in Lyng, "The Sherry 'n' Ham" in Sheringham, "The Dormy House Hotel" at West Runton and "The Aylsham Lodge Motel" at Aylsham. Free drinks will be appreciated!!!
Pyrography:
This is my hobby, the art of wood burning, please visit my out of date website (I must get the time to update it!). I do take orders for that special occasion and I do still have items on Sale at a shop "The Handworkers" in nearby Holt. I am currently having a rest from doing the Craft Show scene and from pyrography in general, but I do intend to start again??
